America West gains a companion

The third annual America West, a regional newspaper operations conference and trade show, will run cooperatively this year with the annual meeting of the National Newspaper Association. While the two trade shows will be combined, each organization will have its own conference agenda Sept. 23-25 in Reno, Nev.

America West, which has been building both its reputation and attendance over its short life, will have 110 exhibitors at the combined trade show.

The America West conference will have a wide variety of topics. In the wrap-up presentation, Thomas Curley, president and publisher of USA Today, will give his answer to the question, "Will I have a job in 10 years?" Curley will address likely changes in the job market over the next decade.

Other presentations include:

  • Total quality ownership -- Kelsey Tyson, author of The One-Minute Manager and an authority in leadership development, will talk about change management and organizational growth.

  • Creating effective Internet communities -- Among several speakers will be Kirsten Alexander, interactive marketing and product development manager for Community Newspaper Co. of Needham, Mass., who will present tips on attracting surfers to your online community.
