CCI + Adobe = N.Y. Times, Boston GlobeAdopting Adobe InDesign as a crucial component, CCI Europe Inc. has announced that it would implement its CCI NewsDesk at three New York Times Co. papers: the New York Times, the Boston Globe and the Worcester Telegram & Gazette in central Massachusetts. The companies did not give financial details for the agreement, but analysts valued the deal at more than $150 million. It has been reported that the New York installation will include 775 workstations supporting more than 1200 editorial users, while the Boston installation will have 275 workstations. The Globe recently installed a writing system developed by NewsEngin Inc. of Narberth, Pa., but apparently it will not abandon the NewsEngin system -- CCI workstations will only be used by editors and designers. Reports indicate the Worcester paper will have 170 workstations for writing, editing and design. CCI Europe, the Danish company with U.S. offices in Kennesaw, Ga., said in a press release that the Times Co. deal represented "more than 1000 concurrent seats." The supplier also said it will work closely with the Times Co. and Adobe to develop a "close integration of Adobe InDesign with CCI NewsDesk." The company said the integration will allow designers to participate in its full editorial workflow while using the InDesign page layout application. CCI said implementation is scheduled to begin in "late 2002."
