Adobe, a desktop and pre-press publishing software supplier based in San Jose, has released new Acrobat plug-ins for Macintosh. The plug-ins enable Mac users to capture web pages into Adobe PDF, electronically approve documents using digital signatures, compare document versions and send e-mail directly from Acrobat.

The plug-ins are available free to licensed users at http://www.adobe.com/prodindex/acrobat/. Acrobat 4.05 Macintosh software, which includes the maintenance update and plug-ins, is available on CD for $24.95 plus shipping and handling.

The system includes workstations for CyberNews remote, CyberNews, CyberPage and Layout Xpert, all on hardware and networking from Compaq Japan.

KNIGHT RIDDER
San Jose-based Knight Ridder has announced the creation of KnightRidder.com, a separate business unit that will guide the 31-newspaper group's Internet activities. The new unit will be headed by President Dan Finnigan, who had led Knight Ridder New Media; that unit will join the Real Cities network under the KnightRidder.com umbrella.

KnightRidder.com also will maintain ties to the company's role in CareerPath.com of Los Angeles and Classified Ventures of Chicago; Knight Ridder was a founding partner in creating the two web ventures.

AutoChooser and IdealHire systems allow newspaper publishers and media organizations to support their advertising customers' inventory management and creation of print, Internet, television and other media promotions.
