    AdOne, the New York-based aggregator of newspaper classifieds on-line through its ClassifiedWarehouse.com site, has launched CWAuctions.com, an auction site whose offerings follow geographic lines. Participating papers will be able to draw in regional web surfers while also offering nationwide access to auctions under an agreement with FairMarket Inc. of Woburn, Mass.

  • ATEX MEDIA SOLUTIONS INC.
    Atex, an international publishing systems supplier based in Bedford, Mass., will market and resell products from Engage Technologies Inc. of Andover, Mass., which provides profile-driven Internet marketing solutions.

    Atex will distribute Engage's ProfileServer, AdManager and DecisionSupportServer to their systems customers, advancing its strategy to provide multimedia and web advertising solutions, the company said.

  • HARLEQUIN INC.
    Harlequin, a RIP maker based in Cambridge, Mass., has announced marketing agreements with several major system providers.

    Harris Publishing Systems Corp. of Melbourne, Fla., will use the new Harlequin ScriptWorks Scalable Open Architecture RIP (SOAR) technology in its MAXWorkFlow output management products.

    Digital proofing system maker Konica Corp. of Japan will use Harlequin RIP, screening and color management technology to drive its digital Konsensus halftone color proofing systems sold in Japan. Konica is launching HQ-RIP, based on Harlequin's ScriptWorks RIP Management System, running on Microsoft Windows NT dual-processor workstations.

    Wide-format printer manufacturer NUR Macroprinters Ltd., with U.S. offices in Boston, Mass., will drive the NUR Fresco screenless wide-format press using a Harlequin ScriptWorks 5.1 RIP, running on an Intel/Windows NT platform.

    Rorke Data of Minnesota will implement ScriptWorks RIP Management System technology as a module within Rorke's PageComposer file combining/conversion package running on Apple Computer Corp.'s Macintosh platform.

  • QUARK INC.
    Denver-based Quark, a supplier of publishing tools that include Quark XPress, has chosen an affiliated company to grow its Quark Publishing System (QPS), and has selected a CORBA-2 developer to aid XTension-building for its Digital Media System (QuarkDMS).

    To aim greater resources at QPS customers worldwide, Quark Inc. appointed affiliate Modulo Systems Corp. of Cambridge, Mass., as master distributor and developer. Quark executives Fred Ebrahimi and Susan Friedman will sit Modulo's board of directors.

    Modulo takes over full responsibility for the development, distribution, marketing and customer support of the server-based workgroup management software, installed in more than six hundred sites worldwide and a smattering of daily newspapers in the United States. The company said it will create new collaborative, enterprise-wide publishing solutions for the magazine, newspaper, data-driven catalog and document management markets.

    To enhance its QuarkDMS, Quark will bundle the CORBA-2 compliant Object Request Broker from Object Oriented Concepts Inc. of Billerica, Mass. The technology gives QuarkDMS XTensions developers the advantage of creating CORBA-based software that runs on both Macintosh OS and Windows NT with less development effort and reduced communication complexity, the company said.

  • SOPHISTICATED CIRCUITS INC.
    Sophisticated Circuits of Woodinville, Wash., released its iDo Script Scheduler for boosting the power of AppleScript from Apple Computer Corp. of Cupertino, Calif.

    A Control Panel that helps users automate their Macintosh machines, the program can schedule an unlimited number of events that initiate AppleScripts, including when the system is idle, as well as manual activation through "hot keys."

    A "lite" version of iDo Script Scheduler was included in Mac OS 8.6. and is still free via the AppleScript web site http://www.apple.com/applescript/. The full-version iDo Script Scheduler is $24.95 each or $199 per 10-pack, with site licenses available.

  • VIO WORLDWIDE LTD.
    Vio, a global file transmission network serving the graphic arts industry from headquarters in Herts, United Kingdom, has formed marketing and technology development alliance with two developers of print-quality "preflight" testing software.

    They are Enfocus Software, based in San Mateo, Calif., author of PitStop 4.0 PDF software, and Markzware Inc. of Santa Ana, Calif., makers of preflighting and workflow software.

    For a beginning, Enfocus's PitStop and MarkzWare's MarkzScout, FLIGHTCHECK v3.61 and MarkzNet programs are available for downloading from Vio's server, in the "Third Party Applications" menu. Trial periods may apply before software licenses are required.

    Later the companies will integrate Enfocus products and the Vio service, giving Vio customers ability to preflight PDF files as part of the file transfer process and to edit PDF files at the server for last-minute corrections on undelivered files.

    Vio customers also will be able to preflight their files using Markzware products, using "destination aware" file checking according to the receiver's production needs. As the recipient changes its specifications, they will be updated via Vio's central server.
