  • ADVANCED TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS INC.
    In a tale of two Wilmingtons, this developer of editorial and advertising publishing systems based in Wilmington, Mass., has announced that the MORNING STAR AND SUNDAY STAR-NEWS of Wilmington, N.C., is fully live on a 25-seat ATS AdVisor advertising system.

    It joins an ATS NewsDesk editorial/pagination system operating since September 1997.

  • AUTOLOGIC INFORMATION INTERNATIONAL INC.
    AII, an supplier of imaging workflow tools and output devices based in Thousand Oaks, Calif., has announced that its latest RIP version, 5.1 for the APS Grafix RIP NT product line is now available.

    Operating in Windows NT, the RIP is based on the Harlequin ScriptWorks PostScript interpreter. Version 5.1's new features include: PostScript 3 compatibility and PDF 1.2 support; an enhanced user interface with larger Page Setup dialog box and direct access to the Device and Cassette Manager; recombination of pre-separated jobs and re-identification of colors; and improved memory management to speed processing.

  • BASEVIEW PRODUCTS INC.
    Baseview, a publishing systems supplier based in Ann Arbor, Mich., and a unit of Harris Publishing Systems Corp. of Melbourne, Fla., has announced that it worked with 64 client sites in August and more than 50 in September.

    Notable installations in the two-month period include an editorial system at the BLUEFIELD (W.V.) DAILY TELEGRAPH, a nine-seat AdManager Pro classified system with pagination and accounts receivable at the PALO ALTO (Calif.) WEEKLY and an eight-seat ProductionManager Pro at the 42,000-circulation daily SOUTHWEST TIMES RECORD in Fort Smith, Ark.

  • CCI EUROPE
    CCI, a Danish publishing systems supplier with U.S. offices in Kennesaw, Ga., has announced that the LOS ANGELES TIMES agreed to install a CCI NewsDesk editorial and pagination system.

    With daily circulation of 1.1 million and Sunday circulation exceeding 1.3 million, the TIMES is North America's largest daily newspapaper, and it joins 13 other metropolitan newspapers which are CCI customers.

    The NewsDesk system will serve approximately 1650 client workstations at L.A. TIMES offices around the world, with 1000 concurrent users possible. It will be CCI's largest NewsDesk installation.

    Expected to take 21 months to complete, the CCI NewsDesk system will replace existing front-end editing and pagination systems from several companies and will feature a central Oracle 8i database and fully replicated disaster recovery solution.

    Across the Atlantic, the Netherlands' largest newspaper, DE TELEGRAAF, agreed to update and extend its eight-year-old CCI pagination system with a NewsDesk editorial and page system. DE TELEGRAAF has a daily circulation of 806,000 and a Saturday circulation of 1,200,000.

    For upcoming editorial and advertising systems, CCI Europe plans to work with International Business Machines Corp. of Armonk, N.Y., to integrate an archive solution for all media based on IBM's NICA/6000 media asset management technology. CCI and IBM recently signed a letter of intent.

  • GEAC PUBLISHING SYSTEMS
    Geac, a supplier of newspaper systems based in Tampa, Fla., has announced the installation of Collier-Jackson's VisionShift Attache at the 516,000-circulation ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH.

    An ad order entry system for traveling sales representatives, VisionShift Attache operates under Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 and SQL Server 6.5.

    The POST-DISPATCH, which uses Collier-Jackson's World Class Series Advertising system for accounts receivable and billing, replaced a similar system from Atex Media Solutions Inc. of Bedford, Mass. It expects on-the-road reps with laptops to begin using the system in early 2000.

  • INFORMATION PRESENTATION TECHNOLOGIES
    IPTech, a supplier of production management software based in San Luis Obispo, Calif., has announced TurboRIP 2.1, its Windows NT-based RIP. The company said the new version includes optional Adobe PostScript 3 In-RIP trapping, enhanced performance and support for Adobe Acrobat 4.0 and the PDF 1.3 file format.

  • MEDIASTREAM INC.
    MediaStream, a Philadelphia-based provider of archiving and on-line services, has launched a new PressLink product that it says is easier to use, faster and equipped for productivity.

    One of the first and largest Internet-based purveyors of photographs, wire stories and graphics for media, PressLink now has a more powerful search engine and new productivity tools. An editor's picks on PressLink are now displayed within specific categories to help narrow particular content. The new "Quick Search" feature is more powerful and more flexible, the company said. In addition to saving the customer's most recent searches, the updated PressLink also lets them save custom searches for quick repeat hunts.

    PressLink now offers content from 34 information providers and 75 products. Seven new providers have been added within the past year, including international and Spanish language content.

  • POWERADZ.COM
    PowerAdz, an Internet hosting provider and software developer based in Renssalaer, N.Y., has added more than 100 affiliates to its Internet-based advertising and editorial aggregation center in September.

    Most of the mastheads were contributed by Community Newspaper Co., a group of daily and weekly newspapers serving more than 900,000 readers from its Needham, Mass., headquarters. CNC will use PowerAdz AdQuestSUPER classifieds to house its ad database for CommunityClassifieds.com.

    CNC also will use PowerAdz' CarCast to add special features to its automotive classifieds and provide its car dealer customers with web sites, integrated window sticker software, automated inventory capture, and in-depth tracking, recording and reporting of sales leads and site activity.
