For the first time, the Cambridge, Mass.-based publishing systems supplier has released the entire Bitstream Typeface Library of more than 1400 fonts on one unlocked CD-ROM, called TypeHigh for Macintosh and Windows. The library contains cuts from Fontek, ITC and other classic typeface designs, as well as Bitstream Originals, WGL4 fonts, Bitstream Bar Code fonts and new typeface releases. All contain the new euro symbol. In addition to 300 more fonts in PostScript Type 1 or TrueType format, the CD features Typographer Sets with ligatures, swashes, fractions, small caps and old style and alternate characters, as well as a font management utility. A term from traditional foundry type days, "type high" refers to quality metal type blocks that required the least height adjustment in the tray. Bitstream is on the web at http://www.bitstream.com/. This Cedar Rapids, Iowa-based software developer has released MarketInfo 3.0, the latest version of its newspaper data warehousing/database marketing system, which joins disparate data sets from circulation, classified and ad billing transactional front-ends into a single consumer or business database. A key new feature is the Integrated Campaign Manager (ICM), allowing users to quickly establish campaign groups and/or direct marketing control groups based on percentages, number counts or randomly selected subsets of consumer audience segments. Newspaper marketers can use ICM to design, implement, track and measure the results of circulation marketing programs, the company said. All campaign information is stored as part of the system including every interaction (mail, phone, response, etc.) the newspaper has with a customer or prospect. MarketInfo is on the web at http://www.gazettetechnologies.com/. TrendWatch, a monitor of trends in the graphic arts industry based in Harrisville, R.I., has published its U.S. Commercial Print Sellers Atlas, the first to identify where decisions to buy print are being made. Measuring where print is purchased, rather than where produced, the report estimates the size of the commercial market for five printing segments: books, magazines, catalogs, newspaper inserts, and general commercial. Geographical markets are broken down into three types: states, metropolitan area (MSA) and SCF (first three digits of the ZIP code), and the complete report is divided into seven regional reports and a national overview. For more information about the atlas, visit TrendWatch on the Web at http://www.trendwatch.com/. Scitex, an Israeli imaging device supplier with U.S. offices in Bedford, Mass., has released the EverSmart Oil Mounting Station, the first professional off-line oil mounting system designed for flatbed scanners. When scanning outsize enlargements, or if the original is scratched, oil mounting can preserve high image quality by reducing image grain, thereby avoiding post-scan retouching. Scitex also announced that its Iris Graphics, Inc. subsidiary has added the Iris43WIDE double-sided imposition proofer to the product line. Designed to work seamlessly with the Scitex Brisque digital front end, this four-color piezo inkjet unit is especially well suited to Scitex Dolev and Lotem users. With the Iris43WIDE, an operator can feed and align the pre-punched IrisSIGNATURE DuPont Digital Dylux Media to the unit's registration pins and image the first side of the signature, then repeat the process to print the reverse side of the flat. At 360 dpi, the Iris43WIDE imposition proofer can complete an eight-up double-sided signature in about 13 minutes and offers front to back registration accuracy of ±0.040 inches, the company said.
