    Adobe, a desktop and pre-press publishing software supplier based in San Jose, has introduced Adobe Collections, four task-oriented packages of Adobe software.

    The four packages and their Adobe applications are Web Collection (GoLive, Photoshop, Illustrator, ImageStyler), $999; Publishing Collection (PageMaker, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat), $999; Design Collection (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat), $1299 and Dynamic Media Collection (After Effects, Premiere Photoshop and Illustrator), $1499 (production bundle, $2499).

  • AGFA CORP.
    Agfa, an imaging devices supplier based in Wilmington, Mass., has announced a sales promotion for two flatbed scanner models. Buyers of a DuoScan T2000XL will also receive, at no charge, an Agfa ePhoto CL50 digital camera, while purchasers of a DuoScan T2500 flatbed scanner will be given an Agfa ePhoto 780c.

    The DuoScan T2500, which can handle reflective items up to 8-by-14-inches and transparencies up to 8-by-12-inches, is priced at $4495. The DuoScan T2000XL, a large-format device that can scan pieces as large as 12-by-18-inches, costs $8995. These offers are made through Tekgraf Inc. of Atlanta, a wholesale distributor of graphics products.

    Geac, a supplier of marketing, circulation and advertising software based in Tampa, Fla., has announced that its British subsidiary, Geac Computer Corp. Ltd. of London, intends to acquire JBA Holdings PLC, a provider of enterprise resource planning software to the food, apparel and automotive industries.

    JBA has about 4500 customers in more than 50 countries. Geac, which recently announced the acquisition of Cybergraphic Inc. of Sydney, Australia, is on the Web at http://www.geac.com/.


  • OPTRONICS INTERNATIONAL CORP.
    Optronics, an imaging device manufacturer based in Chelmsford, Mass., has announced that it now is selling the Impress 2000 two-sided proofing device as part of its computer-to-plate system.

    The Impress 2000 provides 300-dpi or 600-dpi quality on two-sided Du Pont Digital Dylux paper, outputting two-sided proofs from work-and-turn or work-and-tumble imposition formats. The proofer is offered in addition to Optronics' HP DesignJet 2000 device; both are marketed with Optronics' Aurora line of platesetters.

  • SCITEX CORP. LTD.
    Scitex, an Israeli imaging device supplier with U.S. offices in Bedford, Mass., has announced a marketing agreement with Enfocus Software Inc. of San Mateo, Calif., under which the Enfocus line of preflighting and correction technologies for files in the Portable Document Format (PDF) will be incorporating into the Scitex Brisque digital front-end line of products.

    The agreement will ensure that PDF files sent to a Brisque system for distribution and output will be ready to go without a problem. Scitex also is readying for release Export PDF for Brisque, which will convert Scitex CT and Line Work jobs into PDF files for immediate output or export to other systems.

    Seybold Seminars, a conference organizer based in Foster City, Calif., has announced the format and schedule for Seybold San Francisco, a five-day gathering about publishing technology that will be held Aug. 30 to Sept. 3 at Moscone Center.

    Seybold San Francisco will feature two concurrent series of sessions about print and web publishing, with a third group of discussions about publishing strategies for decision-makers.

    The Web Conference, Aug. 30-31, will explore the state of Internet design and technology, managing web site projects, and the dollars and sense of publishing. Scheduled for those two days also is the Best Practices for Print Publishing Conference, which will offer tracks on workflow, file formats, color correction and proofing, and service providers.

    X-Rite, a supplier of color management tools based in Grandville, Mich., has announced that it is shipping its Universal Serial Bus (USB)-compliant colorimeter for calibrating computer monitors running the Mac OS.

    The Monitor Optimizer USB System for the Macintosh is priced at $595. X-Rite, which plans to offer a similar device for the Windows operating system, uses the USB low-power class device as its power supply, making the device compatible with systems world-wide.
