  • THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
    The New York-based AP has agreed to begin distributing content from AScribe, an Oakland, Calif.-based provider of information from organizations that are not part of the public sector.

    The AScribe feed will be handled by the AP's AP ALERT industry-targeted news distribution services. AScribe is a public relations service that distributes news from laboratories, medical centers and universities.

  • BASEVIEW PRODUCTS INC.
    Baseview, a publishing systems supplier and unit of Harris Publishing Systems Corp. based in Ann Arbor, Mich., has announced a marketing relationship with the Internet Edition of Brighton, Mich., to provide a low-cost web publishing solution integrated with Baseview's production software.

    Internet Edition provides web hosting services and publishing software, saving participating newspapers the costs of buying equipment and training staff in on-line publishing. Newspapers maintain control over the content, posting it directly to their web sites at Internet Edition.

    The twice-weekly LAPEER (Mich.) COUNTY PRESS reports that after turning to Internet Edition, hits on its web site soared from 500 a week to 18,500.

  • CENOSIS INC.
    Cenosis, a developer of number-crunching publishing software based in Laval, Quebec, has announced that its products are now at work on the sports desk of the 255,000-paid-circulation JORNAL DE MONTREAL of Montreal. The French-language daily is using Cenosis software to generate sports tables and massage raw data to create tables on the fly.

    ECRM, an imagesetter and platesetter supplier based in Tewksbury, Mass., has announced it is now a partner in the Image Advantage program with Kodak Polychrome Graphics of Norwalk, Conn.

    The joint effort is designed to provide complete workflow solutions, including ECRM imagesetters, image handling software from Kodak Polychrome and servers and front-end software from Ultimate Technographics Inc. of Montreal.

    Mactive, a supplier of advertising solutions based in Melbourne, Fla., has announced that installation of its AdBase ad order entry system has begun at the 356,000-circulation ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER in Santa Ana, Calif.

    The REGISTER will use AdBase to handle a range of advertising department needs, from classified and retail ad order entry, to remote entry by sales reps in the field, to ad dummying and classified pagination.

    Managing Editor, a supplier of advertising production solutions based in Jenkintown, Pa., has announced recent sales to three newspapers and one magazine.

    Customers for Managing Editor's Page Director Ad Layout System include the 15,000-circulation evening DAILY MESSENGER of Canandaigua, N.Y.; 10,000-circulation BEAUFORT (S.C.) GAZETTE, and ADWEEK magazine, which has weekly circulation of 200,000. The 16,000-circulation evening WALLA WALLA (Wash.) BULLETIN bought AdForce 2.5.

    Managing Editor also has released its MagForce series of publishing tools for magazine production. The package, which is integrated with InDesign page production software from Adobe Systems Inc. of San Jose, includes tools for pagination planning, ad entry and generation of PROSE output for print manufacturing.

  • MONACO SYSTEMS INC.
    Monaco, a supplier of color management solutions based in Andover, Mass., has introduced MonacoEZcolor, a software package for creating custom color profiles for devices based on the profiling process established by the International Color Consortium.

    The $299 MonacoEZcolor does not need a spectrophotometer to generate ICC profiles for scanners, monitors and inkjet printers, ensuring accurate color reproduction across a range of devices.

  • MONOTYPE SYSTEMS INC.
    Monotype, an output device supplier based in Rolling Meadows, Ill., has announced an agreement to distribute the NewsJet computer-to-plate plate imager made by Cymbolic Sciences of Bellingham, Wash.

    Cymbolic's semi-automatic platesetter will be marketed in tandem with Monotype's production workflow solutions, positioning Cymbolic to provide devices that complement the Monotype line of imagesetters.

  • SYSTEM INTEGRATORS INC.
    Sacramento-based SII has announced that it will be integrating the InDesign page layout product from Adobe Systems Inc. of San Jose into SII's groupware-based editorial production solution, including its Coyote Layout page production product.

    SII also plans to develop newspaper industry-specific plug-ins for InDesign, which it will use as the primary page layout application in future pagination products.
