  • ADOBE SYSTEMS INC.
    San Jose-based Adobe has introduced a new multimedia production tool called Dynamic Media Studio. Designed for channeling content to video, the World-Wide Web and other media, the package includes existing Adobe products, such as Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.

    The package is priced at $3495, which could save consumers more than $1000 as compared with buying each software item separately. Dynamic Media Studio will be available in February.

    Adobe also has announced the release of After Effects 4.0, the primary feature of which is tighter integration with other Adobe software. Version 4.0, which will cost $995 when it is shipped in February, also offers new warping and simulation effects, as well as the option of creating up to 128 masks for a given layer in a project.

  • AMERICAN COMPUTER INNOVATORS INC.
    ACI, a publishing solutions supplier based in Amherst, Mass., has announced the recent sale of its OpenPages content management and pagination products to the 14,000-circulation evening NEWPORT DAILY NEWS in Newport, R.I. The 27-seat installation features news wire collection, editorial text editing and pagination, and connectivity to remote sites.

  • ATEX MEDIA SOLUTIONS
    Atex, a publishing systems supplier based in Bedford, Mass., has announced the recent sale of Year 2000 software to the 495,000-circulation CHICAGO SUN-TIMES. Atex will upgrade the paper's classified pagination and editorial pagination systems to ensure they will operate after Jan. 1.

  • CCI EUROPE
    CCI, a Danish publishing systems supplier with U.S. offices in Kennesaw, Ga., has announced an agreement to install a 175-seat CCI NewsDesk editorial system at JYDSKE VESTKYSTEN, a 95,000-circulation daily in Esbjerg, Denmark. CCI will replace a system made by Norsk Data.

    The Windows NT-based installation will enable the paper, which publishes seven regional zoned editions daily, to adopt pagination. The paper now produces about 30,000 pages a year. CCI also will be used to post content from JYDSKE VESTKYSTEN on the Web.

  • DUE DILLIGENCE 2000
    Due Diligence 2000, a British concern devoted to Year 2000 compliance issues, has released a Y2K classification scheme for IBM compatible PCs which manufacturers and users can employ to determine whether a given machine meets the British Standards Institute's Definition for Year 2000 Conformity.

    Due Diligence 2000 says its research has found consumers are being told machines are Y2K-compliant when in fact not enough testing has been done to be able to certify the device. Thus Due Diligence 2000 is offering its System Compliance Categorization Scheme to help PC users determine whether a particular computer conforms with the British standard.

  • MACROMEDIA INC.
    San Francisco-based Macromedia has announced that its web site tool kit, Dreamweaver 2, now supports Apple's WebObjects 4 application and e-commerce server, permitting developers to use Dreamweaver in conjunction with WebObjects. In February, 17 WebObjects modules will be available for use in more rapidly creating web sites.

  • MICROSOFT CORP.
    Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft has introduced a web site dedicated to the Apple Mac OS and its users. Called MacTopia, the site at http://www.microsoft.com/mac offers news, links to Mac-related sties and resources that can be downloaded.

    Microsoft also has released its latest web browser for the Mac, Internet Explorer 4.5, and its e-mail application, Outlook Express 4.5. The free software is available at http://www.microsoft.com/mac/ie for Explorer and http://www.microsoft.com/mac/ie/macoe.htm for Outlook Express.


  • PUBLISHING PARTNERS INTERNATIONAL
    PPI, an advertising systems supplier based in Bedford, N.H., has announced seven recent sales. Four were to newspapers owned by MediaNews Group of Denver; two others were to Gannett Co. Inc. of Arlington, Va., and the seventh was to the 271,000-circulation BOSTON HERALD.

    The HERALD will install PPI's AD2000 line of solutions for classified and retail advertising, including modules for accounts receivable and contact management.

    The Gannett properties buying from PPI are the 77,000-circulation SUN of San Bernardino, Calif., and the 61,000-circulation ASHEVILLE (N.C.) CITIZEN-TIMES. The MediaNews papers are 52,000-circulation evening SUN of Lowell, Mass.; 32,000-circulation BERKSHIRE EAGLE of Pittsfield, Mass.; 28,000-circulation evening GLOUCESTER COUNTY TIMES of Woodbury, N.J., and the 20,000-circulation evening DAILY NEWS of Lebanon, Pa.

    Scitex, an Israeli imaging device supplier with U.S. offices in Bedford, Mass., has introduced RenderView. The web-based tool allows pre-press managers to remotely view, in high resolution, images destined for publication.

    Using a standard web browser and a Scitex plug-in, users can open a file in real time over the Web, handling all images in their native formats. Users can zoom in to particular areas of an image, then write comments in electronic sticky notes attached to the image.
