  • NEWSINC.
The merger of Chattanooga's two dailies points to frailties in the JOA concept, writes NEWSINC. Editor and Publisher David M. Cole in the Dec. 7 issue. With the demise of this joint operating agreement, the second in Tennessee this year and the fourth since October 1997, it would seem evident JOAs are an endangered species.

Inside NEWSINC., Senior Editor Pete Wetmore talks with the publishers of Chattanooga's papers about how they will work to develop the new morning daily, which will have two editorial pages. Wetmore also writes about the personal impact of the sale of a newspaper and what goes on behind the scenes during a transaction, outlines the progress newspapers made this year in selling political ads, and asks, "Are fat Sunday papers choking their readers?"
