  • NEWSINC.
Lapses in integrity generate unwanted heat in a slow time, laments David M. Cole, editor and publisher of NEWSINC., in the July 6 issue of the newsletter. While key conferences were held, the industry was roiled by stories of theft, falsification and error in newsgathering, Cole writes, noting that all are violations of standards taught in Journalism 101.

Inside, NEWSINC. correspondents provide extensive coverage of three key events. At the Gannett Mid-Year Media Review in New York, the talk is about slowing ad revenues and stable newsprint prices. Conferees at Connections, part of the Newspaper Association of America's Discovery '98 conference in Orlando, Fla., examine new media for problems and promising opportunities. And other Orlando sessions about co-op advertising generate ideas for befriending this lonely orphan of the ad world.
