PRESS (73k, morning) for a 40-seat advertising system; the NEW YORK DAILY NEWS (731k, morning) for a 70-seat classified system, and Salt Lake City Newspapers Inc., publishers of the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE (131K, morning) and DESERET NEWS (64k, evening) under a joint operating agreement, for an 80-seat advertising system. Six Knight Ridder newspapers have ordered editorial and advertising solutions. The MONTEREY COUNTY (Calif.) HERALD (35k, morning) will install DT's Internet Publisher HTML conversion software. In Florida, the BRADENTON HERALD (46k, morning) will install a 108-seat news system and the TALLAHASSEE DEMOCRAT (54k, morning) will put in a 120-seat editorial system. In Mississippi, the SUN HERALD (50k, morning) of Biloxi-Gulfport will install a 76-seat editorial solution. THE LEDGER-ENQUIRER (50k, morning) of Columbus, Ga., will install a 75-seat editorial system as well as a 19-seat advertising solution, while the ABERDEEN (S.D.) AMERICAN NEWS (17k, morning) has contracted for a five-seat ClassSpeed advertising solution. Overseas, DT will install its advertising and pagination solutions at Nation Newspapers Limited of Nairobi, Kenya. Harris, a publishing systems supplier based in Melbourne, Fla., has announced the sale of its NewsMaker editorial system to THE SUN (327k, morning) of Baltimore. The system includes licenses for 65 pagination workstations and 295 editorial workstations. IPTech, an output software supplier based in San Luis Obispo, Calif., has announced that Howard Publications Inc. will use IPTech's TurboRIP at all 15 of its newspapers, the largest of which is THE TIMES (88k, morning) of Munster, Ind. SII has received letters of intent from the LOS ANGELES TIMES (1m, morning) for two System/77 ServerNet servers from Compaq/Tandem to serve 1400 existing editorial clients and the RALEIGH (N.C.) NEWS & OBSERVER (162k, morning) for a new System/77 Windows-based advertising system with more than 100 clients. Under SII's restructured capital plan converting debt into equity, $15.2 million of debt was converted into newly issued preferred stock, reducing overall company debt by more than 68 percent, to $7 million. The 140-seat system, replacing an Atex legacy system, will run on Unisys PCs.
