  • GROUP LOGIC
Group Logic, a supplier of telecommunications software for the graphic arts industry based in Arlington, Va., has released MassTransit 2.0, a high-speed file transfer package for moving multi-megabyte jobs quickly.

Version 2.0 supports FTP (File Transfer Protocol), NetCo's WAM!NET service and 4-Sight's iSDN Manager, as well as OpenISDN technology, which allows ISDN cards from different manufacturers to communicate at a higher rate. The user interface offers drag-and-drop functionality, and remote proofing through hot folders. A web browser may be used to send and receive files via FTP.

Workflow features include site-specific scheduling of file transfers, improved management of such things as address books and logs, and notification of users when files arrive or errors occur.

  • JINTEK
Jintek, a San Diego-based developer of Adobe Photoshop plug-ins and Quark XPress XTensions with offices also in Bangkok, Thailand, has introduced two products and announced enhancements to two others.

One new product, Type Chameleon, is a plug-in for creating typographic effects in Photoshop. Type Chameleon facilitates skewing type into odd shapes, such as along curves, while permitting the type to be justified and kerned. The Mac version will be available June 1 and the PC version July 1. Each costs $99.

The second new product is QuickMenus XT, an XTension that places Quark XPress commands in the title bars of files. Functions such as alignment, styles and preferences can be accessed from the file window, rather than a tool palette or menu bar. QuickMenus XT costs $29 and runs only on Macintosh.

Jintek, formerly Street Logic Software, also announced it had released ScriptMaster XT 1.1, an XTension for recording and editing AppleScript files. Quark XPress users can store their keystrokes, then open the file for editing. It requires XPress 3.31 or later, and supports XPress 4.02 or later.

Jintek's Twister XTension, which is used to create typographic effects in XPress, has been upgraded to version 1.1, which is written for Quark 4.0. Until Aug. 1, Twister 1.1 may be purchased for $49, half the suggested retail price. It will ship June 1.

Jintek is on the Web at http://www.jintek.com/.

  • KNIGHT RIDDER/TRIBUNE
KRT, a content provider based in Washington, D.C., has introduced News Animation Components, a service for web site editors that enables them to take out portions of any KRT News in Motion file individually. For example, a complete presentation about weather -- thunderstorms, rain, hail, winds and lightning -- can be divvied up on-line, with only a particular part taken for posting.

The idea was advanced by Nando.net, the new media division of the Sacramento-based McClatchy Co., which needed a way to quickly and easily add animated clips to its news site.

Knight Ridder/Tribune is marketed by Tribune Media Services of Chicago; it is on the Web at http://www.tmstv.com/krt/info.htm.

  • REUTERS
The New York-based news service has introduced Reuters Plus, a browser-based information service providing historical and fundamental data about U.S. equities. Reuters Plus is offered in two packages, Level 1, which provides real-time data, and Level 2, which adds the historical and fundamental data.

Level 2 customers also will have access to Market Guide, another source of stock market information based in New York.

Reuters is on the Web at http://www.reuters.com/. Market Guide is at http://www.marketguide.com/.
