Agfa, an imaging systems supplier based in Mortsel, Belgium, has announced a technology and marketing agreement with Xante Corp. under which Agfa's polyester-based Myriad 2 printing plate would be married to Xante's PlateMaker to create a desktop computer-to-plate system for 11-inch-by-17-inch portrait presses. The system would use no chemicals to process the plates, which are designed to provide up to 20,000 impressions. List price for each plate is $1.28. The Xante PlateMaker supports PostScript Level 3, provides 1200 dpi resolution and includes Xante's Accurate Calibration Technology (X-ACT). Atex, a publishing systems supplier based in Bedford, Mass., has announced two sales of its Enterprise advertising system. The buyers are Paddock Publications Inc. of Arlington Heights, Ill., publishers of the DAILY HERALD (132k, morning) in that city, and the ABILENE (Texas) REPORTER-NEWS (40k, morning). The DAILY HERALD will install a 45-seat system that includes Contract Manager, Open Quote and Classified Pagination. THE REPORTER-NEWS will put in up to 20 seats for ad order entry and the Atex software Ad Make-up, Logo Manager and Retriever. Atex is on the World-Wide Web at http://www.atex.com/. AII, an imaging systems supplier based in Thousand Oaks, Calif., has announced recent sales of its scanners, APS 3850 imagesetters, GRAFIX RIPs, Output Manager production tracking system and APSCOM communications software. Among the 18 recent customers are the ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS (303k, morning) of Denver, which purchased an APS 3850 SST color imager and other equipment; the COMMERCIAL APPEAL (180k, morning) of Memphis, Tenn., which ordered three APS GRAFIX RIPs, three 3850 Aspen SST imagers with on-line APS Transporters and two APS Scan 3750/2 scanners, and the WACO (Texas) TRIBUNE-HERALD (42k, morning) which bought one APS GRAFIX RIP. CCI, a production systems supplier based in Denmark with U.S. offices in Kennesaw, Ga., has announced that Axel Springer Verlag of Berlin, Germany, has ordered three separate CCI NewsDesk editorial systems to serve 570 users. The systems will be installed at B.Z. (293k, morning), BERLINER MORGENPOST (170k, morning) and DIE WELT (217k, morning). The three papers will install Oracle databases and Windows NT workstations running CCI Edit/MS Word, CCI DB Access, CCI ArticleChamp and CCI LayoutChamp. George Bush and Dilbert creator Scott Adams. Panel discussions will focus on strategies for small-market newspapers and "Sixty Ideas in Sixty Minutes." Xitron, an imaging solutions provider based in Ann Arbor, Mich., has announced it is developing the Xitron Image Processor, a software RIP based on Adobe PostScript Level 3. Now in beta, XIP is expected to ship in the second quarter of 1998.
