The Bradenton system will run on a Sybase SQL database, with remote access for sales reps on the street. Hardware includes two Compaq Proliant 5000 servers for redundancy and 20 client workstations -- 166 megahertz MMX Hewlett Packard Vectra VLs. The servers run Windows NT, the clients Windows 95.

  • THE COLE PAPERS
Pipes. In the jargon of telecommunications, pipes carry data from one place to another, and in the age of the Internet, those pipes aren't big enough and don't move data fast enough.

In the March issue of THE COLE PAPERS, Correspondent Christopher J. Feola explores the prospects of new pipes -- faster, less expensive and more widely available connectivity technology to get data from server to screen.

Also in the March issue, Correspondent L. Carol Christopher conducts a tour of three key institutes and how they're dealing with new media issues. Coverage of two confabs rounds out the issue, with roundups from the annual conference on Computers, Freedom and Privacy in Austin, Texas, and the Interactive Newspapers conference in Seattle.
