  • ADONE CLASSIFIED NETWORK INC.
    AdOne, a provider of on-line classified data based in New York, has announced that the NEW YORK DAILY NEWS (721k, morning) has agreed to acquire AdOne's on-line classified advertising solution. The DAILY NEWS, the nation's fourth-largest daily, is the largest newspaper to join the AdOne Classified Network.

    Ads will be available to visitors to the NEWS' two web sites, http://www.mostnewyork.com/ and http://www.nydailynews.com/.

  • ASSOCIATED PRESS
    The New York-based news cooperative has expanded the offerings of its industry-specific AP ALERT services to include verbatim text transcripts from such sources as ABC News, CNNfn, Entertainment Drive, Fox News, Fresh Air, MSNBC Business Video, National Public Radio and World Sources Online. Also added is content transcribed or distributed by the Federal Document Clearing House.

    The additions mean that more than 1000 more stories will be available each day on AP's ALERT services.


  • CLASSIFIEDS2000
    Classifieds2000, an on-line classified ad content provider based in Sunnyvale, Calif., has announced a strategic alliance with CUC International Inc. of Stamford, Conn., under which Classifieds2000 will provide CUC's netMarket users with access to its classified advertisements for general merchandise -- audio/video equipment, baby items, books and magazines, camping equipment, collectibles, stereo equipment and sporting goods.

    Classifieds2000 also will create a customized version of its service within the netMarket site mirroring netMarket's appearance.

  • ECRM INC.
    ECRM, an imaging device manufacturer based in Tewksbury, Mass., has introduced Windows NT-based print server software called ECRM CtF Server. The computer-to-film server allows easy access to imagesetters from multiple front-end RIPs, accepting compressed or uncompressed TIFF files and channeling them to an imagesetter.

    CtF Server, which runs on a Pentium PC platform under Windows NT 4.0, has a U.S. list price of $7,500.

    ECRM also recently introduced the Marlin, a high-speed color imagesetter designed for the newspaper market which uses holographic imaging technology from ECRM's Holotek division. The Marlin, which cuts film to size, can output film at 1000 dpi at 60 inches a minute. The imagesetter uses a spinning disk with five prism segments to direct the laser to the imaging plane.

  • DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY INTERNATIONAL
    DT, a publishing systems supplier based in Orem, Utah, has announced one recent sale and a new marketing alliance.

    The GEORGIA STRAIGHT (96k, free weekly) of Vancouver, British Columbia, purchased a ClassSpeed client/server classified advertising system for its 13-person telemarketing staff.

    DT and Multi-Ad Services Inc., an advertising production solutions supplier based in Peoria, Ill., have agreed to package DT's FaceSpan 2.1 SRT with Multi-Ad Creator2. FaceSpan 2.1 SRT (single run-time) is an interface design tool for the Macintosh; Creator2 is a scriptable design program.

    The board of London-based M.A.I.D. plc has completed the acquisition of Knight-Ridder Information Inc., Knight-Ridder Information AG and Knight-Ridder Information's investments in Frost & Sullivan, Individual Inc. and Teltech Resource Network Corp. M.A.I.D plc also has changed its name to Dialog Corp. plc.

DEMOCRAT AND CHRONICLE (177k, morning); DAILY GAZETTE (57k, morning), Schenectady, N.Y.; ERIE (Pa.) DAILY TIMES (37k, evening); SCRANTON (Pa.)     Chicago-based TMS, a provider of content for print and on-line use, has introduced a package of Asian news copy from Japan's Kyodo News Service called Kyodo News Briefs. Delivered five days a week, each day's package includes 10 to 20 stories covering Asia and the Pacific Rim. Subscribers also get access to a three-year database of Kyodo copy.

  • UNISYS CORP.
    Unisys, a publishing systems supplier based in Blue Bell, Pa., has announced that it and Oracle Corp., a database supplier based in Redwood Shores, Calif., will develop a UNIX-based version of the Unisys Hermes front-end system using Sun Microsystems' Solaris platform and Oracle's Oracle8 database product.

  • ZIP2 CORP.
    Zip2, a supplier of software and content on-line based in Mountain View, Calif., has raised about $25 million in new equity capital from several media companies, including A.H. Belo Corp. of Dallas, Central Newspapers Inc. of Indianapolis, Freedom Communications Inc. of Irvine, Calif., the Hearst Corp. of New York and Lauder Partners LLC, a private venture capital firm.

    Also investing were Morris Communications Corp. of Augusta, Ga., the New York Times Co. and Pulitzer Publishing Co. of St. Louis, as well as Knight-Ridder Inc. of Miami and computer trade publisher Softbank, both of which had invested in Zip2 previously. Executives from the New York Times Co. and Morris will join the Zip2 board of directors.
