  • ARIZONA REPUBLIC
    The ARIZONA REPUBLIC of Phoenix has formed an alliance with the local Multiple Listing Service (MLS) to offer house-sales listings on the paper's Internet site, Arizona Central.

    Descriptions of more than 15,000 homes are updated daily on Arizona Central's Home Buying Choices area at http://www.azcentral.com/realestate. Addresses are not provided; house-hunters or real estate agents must call the listing agent to get an address

    Arizona Central also has links to a local company called the Home Buyer's Fair. By surfing to http://www.homefair.com/, prospective buyers gain access to interactive calculators and other home-buying services. Users can get advice for buying or selling a home, and use calculators to analyze their buying power in another city, or to calculate relocation costs and mortgage qualifications.


  • ASSOCIATED PRESS
    New York-based AP has announced that London-based Allsport, a major sports photography provider, has expanded its archive of images to 350,000 items by adding an optical jukebox to its AP Preserver digital archive system.

    Allsport, which has one Preserver in London and a second in Los Angeles, also has acquired a Kodak PIW CD scanner which can scan an 18-megabyte image in four seconds. Allsport said it plans to add 5000 images to its database each week.


  • HERALDNET
    HeraldNet, the on-line service of THE HERALD of Everett, Wash. (51k, morning), was recently judged one of the top news web sites in the region by the Western Washington Professional Chapter of the Society for Professional Journalists. HeraldNet won second place honors in three categories -- overall excellence, content and design -- in results announced May 17. The Seattle Times Extra took first place in each category; third place went to MSNBC.

    HeraldNet -- http://www.heraldnet.com/ -- features daily local news stories and photos, classified ads on the Web or via e-mail, and fun and games in The Headbone Zone.


  • MEDIASTREAM INC.
    Philadelphia-based MediaStream, a Knight-Ridder company, and Chicago-based Tribune Interactive have announced that four Tribune Co. newspapers have begun to use MediaStream's SAVEgateway product to make their archives available on America Online and the World-Wide Web.

    The participating newspapers are the FORT LAUDERDALE (Fla.) SUN-SENTINEL, ORLANDO SENTINEL, CHICAGO TRIBUNE and NEWPORT NEWS (Va.) DAILY PRESS. MediaStream's SAVEgateway enables a browser to communicate access HTML-formatted data on the SAVE archive. It works similarly with AOL, using AOL's proprietary remote-managed gateway format.

    All four papers already use the SAVE system as their archiving solution. Each of the papers transmits daily to a fifth SAVE system which is then used to feed the Internet and AOL.

  • PREPRESS SOLUTIONS
    PrePRESS Solutions, an output device supplier based in East Hanover, N.J., has announced that it will incorporate Adobe PostScript 3 technology into its Panther line of imagesetting systems. PostScript 3 provides faster output through enhanced image technology.

    Release 8 of the Panther RIP, the first product to feature PostScript 3, will be available in the third quarter of 1997.

  • PUBLISHING BUSINESS SYSTEMS
    PBS, a newspaper business systems supplier based in Des Plaines, Ill., has announced that its financial management and human resources applications will be available in Windows 95, with data accessed through either a UNIX or Windows NT server.

    PBS's MediaPlus general ledger and accounts payable application is ready now in Win95. Due out in the fall are payroll, benefits and personnel applications.


  • REAL MEDIA INC.
    New York-based Real Media has released version 4.0 of its Open AdStream Internet advertising management system. Enhancements include an inventory management feature for analyzing sold and unsold space on a web site. Using the past month's traffic data, the software automatically forecasts visits to each page eight weeks into the future to show potential advertisers how many times an ad may be seen.

    Open AdStream 4.0 also records user requests for an ad, notes that the ad was sent, and even records that the ad was successfully delivered to the reader's page. The software then reports on verified ad deliveries.


  • ROASTER TECHNOLOGIES
    Cambridge, Mass.-based Roaster Technologies has launched Roasted Java News, an on-line daily page devoted to news about Java at http://www.roaster.com/news/. The site provides a collection of news headlines concerning Java culled from over 50 publications available on the Internet. A department called Short Takes supplies information on new or updated applets, applications or Java-related sources.

    Roaster Technologies' web site also acts as a major Java resource for technology people working with Java. The newly revised site, http://www.roaster.com/resources/java/javalinks.html, includes a popular section called Roasted Java Links, with links to Java-related resources.


  • SYSTEM INTEGRATORS, INC.
    Sacramento-based System Integrators has announced upgrade sales to the WASHINGTON POST, ST. PETERSBURG TIMES and TAMPA TRIBUNE, primarily sales of SII's Coyote/3 32-bit Windows-based text-editing client.

    The editorial departments of the POST (794k, morning) purchased 275 Coyote/3 clients while the TIMES (350k, morning) acquired 235 Coyote/3s. The TRIBUNE (264k, morning) upgraded to SII's latest advertising software and hardware.

    SII reports selling more than 2,100 Coyote/3s to 26 sites world-wide since the product began shipping March 11. The largest Coyote/3 sale to date was 359 terminals to VERDENS GANG of Oslo, Norway (381k, morning).
