The Texas Press Association announced today the exclusive endorsement of AdOne Classified Network as its on-line classified solutions "provider of choice." AdOne will partner with Texas dailies and weeklies to enhance or establish their on-line classified web presence. With a membership of 520 daily and weekly Texas newspapers, the Texas Press Association provides its membership with numerous promotional, journalistic, management, advertising, legal and legislative services. Founded in 1880, the Texas Press Association's headquarters are located in Austin, Texas. Charles Ying has been named to the board of directors of Bitstream, of Cambridge, Mass, and has been appointed as chairman of the board and chief executive officer of the company. The appointment follows yesterday's decision by C. Raymond Boelig that he is resigning as Bitstream's chairman, chief executive officer and president. Ying's appointment comes on the heels of the successful merger of Bitstream and Archetype Inc. Ying was an investor in Archetype and served for a time as an Archetype director. After taking some time off, Boelig will act as a consultant to Ying and the board of directors. Ying co-founded Atex, a pioneering company in the field of electronic newspaper editing systems, in 1973; Atex was sold to Eastman Kodak in 1981. From 1981 to 1987, Ying was active in venture capital, making numerous investments in high tech start-ups (including Archetype). In 1990, he joined the board of directors of Information International Inc., and was named CEO in 1992. During his tenure at Information International, he was instrumental in its merger with Autologic in 1996. Bitstream's stock is traded on the National Market System under the Nasdaq symbol "BITS." Princeton, N.J.-based Dow Jones Interactive Publishing has announced that its Dow Jones News/Retrieval on-line business research and news-alerting service will begin its migration to the World-Wide Web this summer. The first part to move to the Web will be the Dow Jones Publications Library, a searchable archive of more than 3,700 business publications world-wide, and Dow Jones CustomClips, a news-alerting service that continuously delivers business news via e-mail. Later this year, enhanced versions of two other Dow Jones News/Retrieval components -- Company and Industry Data, and Quotes and Market Data -- will be introduced on the Web. Cincinnati-based GMTI has announced recent installations of its Celebro Advertising Solutions multimedia advertising software. Celebro is a suite of applications enabling advertisers to create, schedule and electronically transmit classified line and display advertisements. Recent installations were made at the RECORD SEARCHLIGHT, Redding, Calif. (38k, morning); IDAHO STATESMAN, Boise, Idaho (66k, morning), and Evansville (Ind.) El Dorado Hills, Calif.-based Grover Digital Technologies, in concert with the MediaBridge Group division of Sacramento-based System Integrators Inc., has introduced SII Gateway, software that opens SII publishing systems to Internet and other remote sources without re-keying or intervening, and without compromising database security or system performance. Using a Java-based client, SII Gateway enables advertisers to place, justify and track costs for classified ads, and determine remotely which ads are due for extension or cancellation. Reporters and stringers can file stories directly into an SII editorial systems. This "screen pop" access is available to SII customers using SII Gateway with Coyote/3 publishing software. Cox, who assumed the chairmanship of the Newspaper Association of America on April 30, has urged newspaper executives to participate in NEXPO 97, the largest annual newspaper technology conference and exposition in the world. The CHICAGO TRIBUNE has launched the first application of Chicago-based Quantum Leap's Quantum Objects Internet publishing system, called Metromix. Metromix Java-based programming provides a state-of-the-art database that allows for easy searching and navigation through thousands of entertainment listings, reviews, maps and editorial content. Atlanta-based SCC, a provider of cross-platform image management software, has announced the release of MediaGrid 2.0, SCCÕs media browser application. MediaGrid for Power Macintosh and Windows NT and Win95 is a folder browser and database client application that displays thumbnails and text attributes of picture files, text files, PDFs and other files. MediaGrid can watch multiple folders on different volumes and servers, while simultaneously monitoring libraries in the SCC MediaServer database. As picture files are added, deleted or changed, the grid of thumbnails is automatically updated. MediaGrid comes with Layout Designer, for creating pages to be printed, and Dialog Designer, which allows the user to define and configure dialogs to view and edit attributes. Registered users of MediaGrid 1.0, which was released in October 1996, have been sent an upgrade to 2.0 at no cost.
