Burlington, Mass.-based Archetype has announced the release of MediaBank 2.0, software to control workflow and data access, including archiving, over a local or wide area network using Internet protocols. Enhancements and new features include TCP/IP protocol; JPEG format for smaller thumbnail files and for high-quality preview files; management of pools of archives on CDs, tapes and disk drives; password-protected access to MediaBank databases using standard web browsers; the ability to drag and drop images and text to Quark XPress pages, and Windows 95 and Windows NT clients. Auburn, Calif.-based AISI has announced a co-marketing agreement with Sacramento-based System Integrators Inc. under which SII will offer 44 of AISI's newspaper products and services designed specifically for the SII publishing market. SII and AISI also will join forces to develop new products and solutions that add value to SII's front-end publishing offerings. AISI designs, makes, markets and services news publishing systems, Tandem systems, sales automation software, remote reporter/ad sales software products, Internet classified servers and integrated AISI PC, Sun, HP and Macintosh workstations and servers. AISI also announced two recent installations it supervised. The BATTLE CREEK (Mich.) ENQUIRER (28k, evening) purchased eight editorial workstations, two pagination workstations and two system management workstations using solutions from Advanced Publishing Technology of Burbank, Calif. The DAILY NEBRASKAN (16k, morning) at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln purchased 35 workstations for editorial and classified using AISI/APT solutions. New York-based Dow Jones has announced that the Wall Street Journal Interactive Edition now has more than 100,000 subscribers, making it the largest paid-subscriber publication on the World-Wide Web. Introduced in April 1996, the Interactive Journal began charging for subscriptions in August 1996 -- $49 per year, or $29 for subscribers to any print edition of the WALL STREET JOURNAL. The Interactive Journal, which has a dedicated staff of 40, offers the Personal Journal News Alert and the Dow Jones News/Retrieval Publications Library. News Alert automatically delivers the top five headlines and stories to each subscriber, based on custom profiles. News Alert uses the BackWeb client application from BackWeb Technologies Inc. The Dow Jones News/Retrieval Publications Library enables subscribers to search current and past articles from more than 3,600 newspapers, magazines and business-news sources. Subscribers may do unlimited searching and read headlines at no charge; articles may be viewed for $2.95 each. The Interactive Journal is on the Web at http://wsj.com/. Chelmsford, Mass.-based Edgil has introduced Recruitment Center, a PC-based resume software package designed to link job seekers and job advertisers interactively, and automate employment screening. Advertisers can place employment ads on-line and applicants can respond via e-mail. Both parties are able to input specific qualifications and/or required skills, and have them automatically matched according to defined criteria. CMG Information Services Inc, an Andover, Mass. investment company that holds a majority interest in Lycos Inc., has announced it has invested in KOZ, of Greensboro, N.C. KOZ, led by Frank Daniels III, founder of Nando.net, has developed KOZ Community, an integrated set of web publishing solutions for easy on-line production of newsletters, calendars or member lists without having to learn and use HTML. Dayton, Ohio-based LEXIS-NEXIS has announced that this summer it will release PhotoView Contact, a web-based image archiving and library system from its subsidiary, NewsView Solutions. PhotoView Contact is the latest addition to the suite of products by NewsView Solutions, which includes NewsView for text archiving, PhotoView for image archiving and Connections for Internet connectivity. PhotoView Contact will provide both Internet and intranet connectivity to existing photo archives. Users will be able to save searches, download images and queue images for later processing. "Guests" will have access to subsets of an image archive and be able to order high-resolution image files or photo prints while on-line. LEXIS-NEXIS is on the Web at http://www.lexis-nexis.com/. The parent of LEXIS-NEXIS, Reed Elsevier plc of London, has announced that it has a signed a letter of intent with Microsoft Corp. of Redmond, Wash., to make Microsoft technologies a cornerstone of Reed Elsevier's electronic information products and corporate computing platforms. The five-year, $30 million agreement will enable Reed Elsevier to use Microsoft Commercial Internet Systems, a suite of commercial-grade 'Net applications. Siebel Systems of San Mateo, Calif., has announced that the LOS ANGELES TIMES has selected Windows-based Siebel Enterprise Applications as its sales information system standard. SUN (55k, morning) has contracted with Minneapolis-based Spanlink for its ExtraAgent for Circulation, ExtraAgent for Classified and WebCall software packages. With ExtraAgent for Circulation, a circulation call center provides callers with an estimated wait time to speak to an agent, or provides interactive voice response features such as vacation stop with restart, service error reporting, account balance inquiry and bill payment, using their credit card and Touch-Tone phone. ExtraAgent for Classified has similar interactive features. Spanlink's WebCall package allows people browsing an Internet site to connect with someone at a call center, or to make general inquiries about rates and promotions, place classified ads or even temporarily stop newspaper delivery for vacations over the 'Net. The Belgian electronics group Barco NV has announced it has agreed to sell its 15 percent stake in digital color measurement systems company Light Source to X-Rite of Grandville, Mich. Barco bought its stake in Light Source in September 1995 to gain know-how in color technology. Light Source's systems are used in printing and other applications.
