  • ADONE CLASSIFIED NETWORK
    New York-based AdOne Classified Network, an on-line classified solutions provider, has announced that it has added 21 newspapers to its network and now hosts more than 400 titles representing a combined circulation of more than 10 million.

    Among the 21 newspapers are THE TRIPLICATE, Crescent City, Calif. (6k, morning); UNION LEADER, Manchester, N.H. (69k, morning); EAGLE-TRIBUNE, Lawrence, Mass. (58k, evening); UNION-SUN & JOURNAL, Lockport, N.Y. (17k, evening), and YAKIMA (Wash.) HERALD-REPUBLIC (44k, morning).

  • ADQUEST CLASSIFIEDS
    AdQuest Classifieds, an on-line classified advertising service based in Waupaca, Wis., has signed exclusive contracts with five newspaper associations -- Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, North Dakota and Pennsylvania -- to serve member newspapers in those states. These are in addition to AdQuest's exclusive endorsements from newspaper associations in Arizona, Iowa and Minnesota.

    AdQuest now carries 55,000 ads on the Internet every day from more than 260 publications. The cost per ad is 50 cents per week or less. Through a feature called ReQuest, users may ask AdQuest to e-mail them when it locates a searched item.

  • ADVANCED PUBLISHING TECHNOLOGY INC.
    Advanced Publishing Technology, a publishing solutions supplier based in Burbank, Calif., and Digital Equipment Corp. of Merrimack, N.H., have announced that Digital will be selling, integrating and supporting APT's products, including editorial, editorial pagination, classified liner, liner pagination and accounting.

    APT, which is in use by 500 users at more than 50 sites, is built on an open computing platform, using Windows 95, Microsoft Word, Quark XPress, Novell, NT and SQL Server. Under this agreement, Digital will provide the full range of integration services for the APT solution, including work flow design, equipment staging, format and macro development, operational procedures, training and support. Digital engineers will install APT systems.

  • ADVANCED TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS INC.
    Advanced Technical Solutions, a publishing solutions provider based in Wilmington, Mass., Inc. has announced the installation of its AdVisor classified advertising system at EL NUEVO DIA (220k, morning) in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The largest of the city's three dailies, EL NUEVO DIA produces more than 40 pages of classified advertisements each day.

    AdVisor is being used to input and manage customer information and ad text. Most of the 40 PC workstations are dedicated to order entry. For customers who require billing, AdVisor passes account information to an IBM AS400 business system. AdVisor is also interfaced with an EdgCapture credit-checking system for credit card processing. EdgCapture is made by Edgil Associates Inc. of Chelmsford, Mass.

    For pagination, AdVisor gathers ad text and passes it to a Managing Editor Classified Layout System made by Managing Editor Inc. of Jenkintown, Pa. Output is handled through Quark XPress.

  • ATEX MEDIA SOLUTIONS
    Atex Media Solutions, a pre-press systems supplier based in Bedford, Mass., has announced that it is developing its products on Microsoft Windows NT.

    Atex will develop 32-bit software that will comply with Microsoft's ActiveX standards. The company plans to take advantage of Microsoft COM and Transaction Server technology for client-to-host transport layers of its products. The company also will offer its products using Windows NT server-based equipment.

  • BITSTREAM INC.
    Bitstream, a publishing consulting firm based in Cambridge, Mass., has issued a revenue report and has announced completion of its merger with Archetype Inc. of Burlington, Mass. Bitstream develops software solutions for managing digital information, and licenses type libraries and font technology

    Bitstream reported revenues of about $2.5 million for the three months ended March 31, 1997, as compared to $2.7 million for the three comparable months of 1996. Net income for the 1997 quarter was $232,000, as compared to $540,000 for the comparable 1996 quarter.

    Bitstream also announced that Archetype has become a wholly owned subsidiary. Archetype stockholders will receive an aggregate of about $1.2 million in cash and 525,000 shares of Bitstream Class A common stock.

    Archetype's products include MediaBank, a digital management product for cataloging and archiving electronic images, text and documents; InterSep OPI and InterSep Output Manager, and NuDoc, document composition technology. Archetype will continue to develop and sell electronic publishing solutions through valued-added resellers, while technology will be sold through the Bitstream OEM channel.

  • EDGIL ASSOCIATES INC.
    Edgil, a publishing software provider based in Chelmsford, Mass., has announced the introduction of its centralized Internet classified ad hosting program.

    A participating newspaper can link from its advertising system to Edgil's WebCentral software at Edgil's server and pay only for those advertisements that are transferred to the Web. No initial capital purchase is needed.

    Edgil also announced enhancements to WebCentral, including Edgil's marketing statistics package and automated query agents. The marketing statistics package allows reports on advertiser-specific data to be sent back to the newspaper. The query agents enable users to request specific ad information, with ads sent to users automatically via e-mail.

  • GEAC VISIONSHIFT
    Geac VisionShift, a division of Geac Computers Inc. based in Tampa, Fla., has announced its accounting and human resources/payroll product lines are being reorganized into the Geac Commercial Systems Inc. division.

    Accounting and HR/payroll sales, development and support staff will remain the same. Employees working on these products will be moved to a new building in Tampa along with other Geac Commercial Systems employees.

    Geac VisionShift will be dedicated to the newspaper industry; it will be renamed Geac Publishing Systems.

  • PERSONAL LIBRARY SOFTWARE INC.
    Personal Library Software, a developer of search and intelligent-agent technology based in Rockville, Md., has announced that it will extend support for the Portable Document Format (PDF) across its product line.

    PDF is the web-ready file format created by Adobe Acrobat software, made by Adobe Systems Inc. of San Jose, Calif. Integrating support of Acrobat 3.0 software enables PLS products to automatically launch an Acrobat viewer when a PDF file is selected from a PLS search results list.

    PLS products include indexing and search tools for rapidly accessing information stored on the Web, corporate intranets and CD-ROMs.
