Geac VisionShift, a division of Geac Computers Inc. based in Tampa, Fla., has introduced PostalPro!, a joint venture between Geac VisionShift and PostalSoft Inc. of LaCrosse, Wis. Through a Windows interface, users can take advantage of maximum postal discounts under the recently introduced U.S. Post Office classification reform. PostalPro! integrates PostalSoft address correction, postal pre-sort and mail label generation capabilities with GEAC's World Class Series Circulation, World Class Series Advertising and VisionShift Advertising systems. PostalPro! was engineered to verify and correctly format addresses, assign ZIP+4, carrier route and Line Of Travel (LOT) information, and then sort the mail based on user-defined criteria. PostalPro! is equipped to communicate with many of the available bar code printers from various suppliers. The company's web site is at http://www.geac.com/offices/vs/index.htm. Group Logic Inc. of Arlington, Va., will present a major upgrade to its Imagexpo remote soft proofing, annotation and file transfer software at Seybold San Francisco starting Sept. 11. New features in Imagexpo 2.0 include screen-based review and approval of CYMK color, on-screen viewing of type and illustrations at any resolution, enhanced tracking of reviewers' annotations, authentication for secure communication and sign-offs, built-in support for Apple's ColorSync 2.0, and an on-screen densitometer. With Imagexpo, users can create soft proofs -- static bitmaps of pages and images -- and transmit, view on screen and mark up soft proofs. Imagexpo 2.0 provides a "virtual bitmap" feature, which loads into RAM only the data required to render the portion of the file visible in the document window and stores the remaining portion on the local hard disk. Thus, a user may review large high-resolution soft proofs with small amounts of RAM. Imagexpo 2.0 incorporates Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF) technology to allow resolution-independent viewing of type and illustrations. Using Imagexpo's magnifying glass, users can zoom in on the PDF, causing the displayed resolution to increase, and allowing even the smallest point sizes of type and the finest illustration detail to be reviewed. A floating layers palette allows users to create, delete and name layers containing annotations made to each page or image, with no limit to the number of layers used. Imagexpo 2.0 will be unveiled at Seybold San Francisco in Group Logic's booth, 4335 in the North Hall. Imagexpo 2.0 is scheduled to ship in early 1997, with a retail price of $849 per copy. The company can be found on the web at http://www.grouplogic.com/. Iota Industries Ltd., an Israeli company that recently opened a U.S. office in Norwalk, Conn., has introduced MyDesk, a personal archiving and retrieval solution. At an introductory price of $49, MyDesk gives individuals a way to archive documents and then retrieve information by locating words inside the original scanned or faxed document image, a capability not available in other products. MyDesk features an advanced document viewer and efficient database management capabilities, and gives users the ability to send MyDesk documents over the Internet or via e-mail to other MyDesk users. MyDesk converts scanned paper documents into a TIFF-compatible searchable image format. Rapid image zooming, scrolling and paging are supported, as are multi-page documents. When users type in a word, MyDesk promptly retrieves all documents containing that word. Each hit is highlighted and displayed on the original document image. MyDesk runs under Windows 95 on PC486/100 and higher systems with at least 8 megabytes of RAM and a SVGA 640-by-480 display monitor or higher. A Windows 3.11 version will be released at the end of September. A demo of the Windows-based software may be downloaded from http://www.iota.co.il. MyDesk may be ordered directly from Iota via an on-line order form posted on the Iota web site or by calling Iota's toll-free number, 800-655-IOTA.
