  • AUTOLOGIC INFORMATION INTERNATIONAL
AII, based in Thousand Oaks, Calif., has announced that Treasure Chest Advertising has become a beta site for AII's new SeeColor digital color proofing package.

Treasure Chest, a wholly owned subsidiary of Big Flower Press, is using SeeColor at its Treasure Chest Springfield facility in East Longmeadow, Mass., where it prints advertising circulars and circulation-building newspaper products in a computer-to-plate environment. AII provided SeeColor's Radiance software, an AII APS-Alpha RIP and an APS-HP755CM color inkjet proofer.

Craig Harmsen, Treasure Chest's pre-press manager, reported that his shop stopped producing color proofs from film ahead of schedule because of the quality of the SeeColor proofs.

  • LEDGE MULTIMEDIA
Ledge Multimedia, a division of Cambridge, Mass.-based Dataware Technologies Inc., has announced the release of its first commercial, interactive Java applet for Ziff-Davis' PC MAGAZINE ONLINE.

The Java-enabled site allows users to customize the delivery of information to meet their needs. Thus, PC MAGAZINE will deliver information over the Internet in a new way, allowing users to find the information they need without requiring links to a number of HTML pages.

The PC MAGAZINE ONLINE Java applets were developed by Ledge Multimedia to give site visitors easy access to benchmark and price performance information on 58 PC notebooks. Visitors may select available categories from Java-enabled menus, which appear as a user's cursor passes over hot spots on the web site's pages.

Users are given a list of comparative information on the notebooks tested. They may scroll down the menus and click to select fields to customize the data presented on their browsers. The Java applets execute users' commands and display the results.

Java applets are executable programs included in HTML pages, similar to the way images are included. When a user views the page with a Java-compatible browser, the applet is downloaded to the user's system and executed by the browser.

PC MAGAZINE ONLINE may be visited at http://www.pcmag.com.

  • MISSION CRITICAL TECHNOLOGIES
Mission Critical Technologies of Concord, Mass., a developer and supplier of remote ad management systems for newspapers, has introduced AdFAST/Images. The new product permits advertisers to send display ads and their graphic files directly to a newspaper via modem, or on-line via the World-Wide Web.

AdFAST/Images joins a suite of Mission Critical products that support direct electronic advertiser entry of classified ads. AdFAX is the fax management system; AdFAST enables direct advertiser input from PCs, and AdFAST.com is an Internet product for direct advertiser ad entry.

AdFAST/Images attaches a black and white graphic, in any one of several image formats, to the ad order submitted by AdFAST or AdFAST.com. When the newspaper receives the display ad order, Mission Critical's AdCOMMAND remote ad server automatically passes the graphics files to the display ad and production departments for processing, while passing the ad order to the front-end advertising system.
