  • AUTOLOGIC INC.
    The multinational daily EL PAIS of Madrid, Spain, has bought several output devices from Autologic of Thousand Oaks, Calif., soon to be merged with Information International Inc. of Los Angeles.

    The 400,000-circulation paper installed four Pentium-based Autologic software RIPs running Windows NT, four wide-measure APS-6/108VR imagesetters, and two Autologic modular facsimile systems.

    EL PAIS prints editions in France and Mexico, and at two remote sites in Spain, Seville and Valencia, where identical systems were installed.


  • BASEVIEW PRODUCTS INC.
    A Macintosh-based supplier of publishing software, Ann Arbor, Mich.-based Baseview installed upgrades and/or new packages at more than a score of sites this summer.

    Among the products acquired by some or many of these sites were Page Director Ad Layout System, DisplayManager, NewsEditPro editorial, DragX Quark XPress pagination XTention, ClassFlow classified and IQue pagination packages.

  • EDGIL ASSOCIATES
    Three Pennsylvania newspapers in the Calkins Newspaper group have installed EdgCapture credit card processing software from Edgil Associates of Chelmsford, Mass.

    The main site at the BUCKS COUNTY COURIER TIMES has been equipped with EdgCapture Multi-User Option. Satellite sites at the BURLINGTON COUNTY TIMES and the DOYLESTOWN DAILY INTELLIGENCER each have one workstation

    Formatted batch files will be submitted to EdgCapture from the three workstations at intervals during the day. EdgCapture will process each file and return an updated file to a Novell file server to pass through to update the order entry system.


  • EDITORIAL SYSTEM ENGINEERING
    Several newspapers in the United States and Europe have acquired software packages from ESE of Bedford, Mass.:

    --The BOSTON HERALD has bought ESE's PageXchange for PCs and Macs; it will be used to generate copyfitting formats in the metro's legacy Atex editorial front-end. The HERALD also bought Editorial NEWS Layout for Windows.

    --The ROCHESTER (N.Y.) DEMOCRAT AND CHRONICLE has bought PageXchange to provide links to its Atex system.

    --The DAILY TELEGRAPH of London, England, has purchased a site license for Editorial NEWS Layout.

    --News International of London selected ESE to provide 12 Sparc ESE PageRIPs based on Harlequin's Scriptworks.

    --The MANILA (Philippines) BULLETIN selected ESE to act as its integrator, installing editorial pagination and other integration projects at the current Atex site.

    --EL PAIS of Madrid, Spain, has installed ESE's ITF-to-PostScript Converter.

    --GACETA DE CANARIAS of Madrid, Spain, has purchased a 50-seat editorial (Tbase) and pagination (Editorial NEWS Layout) package from ESE.

    --DIARIO DE NAVARRA of Pamplona, Spain, has acquired Editorial NEWS Layout.
