  • ARTESIA TECHNOLOGIES
    This Rockville, Md.-based provider of digital asset management systems has announced an agreement with Intertrust Technologies Corp. of Santa Clara, Calif., to integrate their respective technologies to offer customers an advanced platform for managing, safeguarding and distributing digital assets.

    The initiative between InterTrust and Artesia is designed to address the complexities that media, entertainment and publishing industries face in distributing digital assets across multiple channels and platforms.

    The agreement will allow Artesia's TEAMS Digital Asset Management (DAM) tool to automatically encrypt and manage digital assets in conjunction with InterTrust's Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology. The technology integration agreement also allows Artesia to join the community of application developers and service providers comprising the digital commerce network created by InterTrust and branded as the MetaTrust Utility.

    JYDSKE VESTKYSTEN (91k) has become the first newspaper to purchase a full archiving system from this Danish company, which includes image, graphic, text and page archives. CCI MediaStore will allow the paper to have a complete electronic archive.

    CCI MediaStore enables searching and retrieval of information via a user-friendly full-text search engine. All content can be stored, organized and cross-referenced in a variety of ways. Additionally, old clippings and microfilm can be referenced without being stored, providing a rich research environment for journalists and librarians.

    Based in Springville, Utah, this company has announced that the NewsSpeed 5.0 system is currently in use for daily production at Georgia's SAVANNAH MORNING NEWS (63k) and that additional implementations are underway at both London's DAILY TELEGRAPH (1m) and Michigan's LANSING STATE JOURNAL (71k).

    The NewsSpeed system in Savannah is in daily production of the "A" news section, the opinion and local news pages as well the Monday-Friday features sections and the weekly zoned editions.

    The Telegraph Group Ltd. is in the early stages of implementing a more than 600-seat NewsStand 5.0 editorial system with technical and workflow audits completed, and user-training beginning last month.

REGISTER (99k) to implement elements of its TextStream family of products for use in the export of ads to Quark XPress. TextStream products are currently being used in Mobile to interface between the newspaper's net-linx (formerly SII) system and a publishing system from Baseview Products Inc. at the MISSISSIPPI PRESS (20k) in Pascagoula, Miss.

    The company is also completing a development project with Perscombinatie Meulenhof in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, implementing TextCon for use with an additional publication.

  • PUBLISHING BUSINESS SYSTEMS INC.
    This Barrington, Ill.-based provider of newspaper business software systems has announced that Donrey Media Group has licensed MediaPlus Circulation Management, List Matching and Circulation InSight for all of its newspapers.

    Donrey Media Group, headquartered in Fort Smith, Ark., implemented Publishing Business Systems' (PBS) Circulation Management and List Matching products in a centralized environment. A single server will handle all the company's 11 daily and 12 weekly newspapers, creating a combined view of all Donrey's customers.

    This Denver, Co.-based privately held provider of publishing software has introduced Quark Active Publishing Server (QuarkAPS), a high-performance server technology that uses core engines from Quark XPress 5.0 to produce personalized, design-rich content on demand in popular print and Web file formats.

    Content creators, using a basic web browser, will be able to use QuarkAPS to flow content into templates and render high-fidelity documents on the fly. It is a scalable, on-demand server that can be integrated into production environments to give publishers control of their content. Scheduled for release later this year, QuarkAPS will run on Windows NT4/2000 and Mac OS X Server.

  • SEECOLOR CORP.
    The Army Times Publishing Co. of Springfield, Va., part of Gannett Co. Inc., has installed this Mountain View, Calif.-based company's Computer-To-Proof press-accurate color halftone proofing system.

    The new software uses the same bitmap file produced by the paper's Panther RIPs for proofing and for printing and produces a near-perfect color match.

    Computer-To-Proof also allows The Army Times to accurately proof scanned color ads supplied as film. Computer-To-Proof software incorporates tools to control "post-RIPped" halftone dots from the original file as well as the density, dot area and press ink color. By matching the press characteristics, the proof may be output onto the same newsprint paper to be used for the actual print job.

    International consulting firm McKinsey & Co. will offer its advice to the 54th World Newspaper Congress and Eighth World Editors Forum, both conferences to be held in Hong Kong, June 3-6.
