  • CANOPY LLC.
Formerly the PrimeSource Digital Print Group, the Seattle-Wash.-based company has announced the introduction of PDF ProofStreamer, a tool giving digital printers the ability to create on-screen preflighting of variable data, imposition and traditional jobs for Xeikon digital presses, before they are delivered to press.

ProofStreamer's PDF technology simulates data merging, layering, collation and imposition, and creates "thin proofs" of all unique job versions, allowing designers and production supervisors to verify that simple short run jobs, or all versions of one-to-one marketing collateral, will impose and print correctly.

  • DESKNET INC.

With this new technology, GOLFonline.com saves approximately 50 hours each month, $15,000 per year on its Internet connection and has been able to condense its production cycle from one week to 24 hours.

  • WORLD ASSOCIATION OF NEWSPAPERS
POLITIKEN, a daily newspaper based in Denmark, has reworked its traditional ratecard into a pricing system based on impact rather than space. A one-day seminar will be held Sept. 15 to discuss the new system, which more resembles television-advertising practices than newspaper practices and will be organized by the Paris-based World Association of Newspapers (WAN).

Using a database of reader profiles, reading habits, daily circulation and reach, POLITIKEN prices its space according to "Quality Rating Points," which take into account size, color, day of week and position in the paper. WAN will take a group to the Danish paper to examine its research, pricing formulation, software, results in terms of revenues and market share, and development plans.
